The elegant and highly developed Tuscan decors for home originate in Tuscany, the most historical and beautiful places on the earth. This place is also the origin for the renaissance and was the birthplace for Dante, Michaelangelo and Leonardo DaVinci. The Duomo cathedral and the leaning tower of Pisa, one of the historic buildings in the entire Europe are located here. It is not a surprise if the Tuscan decor is very famous in the entire world, suggesting the dreams of being a beautiful and pleasing place and also retrospect sweet memories of a vacation.

Tuscan decors colors are based on earth tones. Tuscany land is thick brown, fertile, with olive trees, evergreens and crops. Hence the colors olive, brown and dark green are a part of the basic colors. Brick red and beige spotted like old stucco comprise the accent color. Tuscan pattern of accessories and paintings are mostly simple sceneries or landscape that portray the beauty of nature.

European style of architecture started to change in the beginning of 14th century. Brunelleschi and Giotto ? the Italian architects learnt to make tall buildings, cover these with domes that are wide enough and also support these with lean columns. Rolling ironwork, rich ornament, mosaics for floor and symmetry was loved by them. Tuscan decors take these guidelines as their inspirations.

Tuscany is been a region for trade and travel since the roman era. Due to this, Tuscan designing got influenced by this foreign patterns and styles from India to Egypt. Tuscan decors also feature stools or chairs mounted on based with the shape of ‘X’ or pedestals or planters that are similar to the ones from old Greece.

Architectural components are included in the Tuscan home furniture. The legs of a table and chair are carved similar to columns. The back of chairs or table stretchers is carved to resemble the arches on the renaissance structures or buildings. The style still being geometric is filled with ornamentation and movement.

Mosaics cover the pieces or parts of a Tuscan decor - Small pictures made of tiles of different colors, or stones cemented into a floor or tabletop. Such mosaics remind the Roman mosaic in a cathedral that inspired the Cathedrals of Tuscan.

Tuscan decors use the famous patterns of a Tuscan design. Brown stone or a solid marble can be used for coloring walls. Original marble accessories similar to a countertop can be used for more budget. Fireplace made of rustic stone or a yard with stacked pebbles or stone give a more real or authentic feel to the decor.

Reverse Mortgage Pitfalls: Are You Prepared For The Worst?

Filed Under (Mortgage) by Barry Crewse on 10-08-2008

Reverse mortgage pitfalls occur nearly everyday. Are you considering such a loan and if you are have you thought about the negative aspects of such a loan?

Unless you were born missing your eyes and ears you have probably seen the countless ads on TV and in print as - well as listening to the pitches showering your ears from the radio.

Although this type of loan may fit well for many people, and I am sure that it does, there are many caveats that you need to be aware of and pay close attention to when seriously entertaining a reverse mortgage loan.

There are many loan programs, over a dozen at the time of this writing, that are designed around the reverse mortgage concept.

Taking this into consideration, your first consideration should be to seek out lenders who offer a large number of these loans for you to consider.

If the lender you talk to only offers you a couple of different types of loan packages you need to be very wary as these types of loans are probably designed by the lender themselves and may not offer you the best rates and terms you can find shopping around.

Reverse mortgage pitfalls need not to even occur if you are armed with the fact before seeking one of these loans.

Most often these types of loans are structured around a few basic requirements starting with your age. As an example, HUD requires you to be 62 while more conventional lenders will be willing to loan to younger people.

The pitfall here is that the younger you are the less attractive interest rate you will get which can really hurt you down the road.

The inflation factor. It will never go away so as the cost of living expenses grow year after year will your loan payment increase as well?

Your loan contract must stipulate a cost of living increase dictated by the local economy. If not, you must consider where you will be 10 years from now.

Another reverse mortgage pitfall factor that you must pay close attention to is your yearly taxes. These must be payed by you, the home owner. Have you figured those costs into your income levels 10 years down the road from now?

Property upkeep. Yet another expense factor you must not ignore! Expenses such as your plumbing costs, HVAC, roofing, flooring and a tons of other things that pop up from time to time. You must include those costs as well.

Home owners insurance. Another things you must keep in mind. Your lender will require up to date insurance as they must protect their future investment. Again, you must included this into your overall income figures.

Lastly but far from least in your current utility costs. How much to you think you will be paying 10 years from now. They will continue to increase as previously mention in the inflation factor I discussed earlier.

So what is the bottom line? These are but a few of the pitfalls you need to consider when talking with your lender. There are many more and you can find these online if you know where to look.

Add up all your expenses you will pay over the next decade and make sure these factors are included in any type of loan contract you agree to. The buying power you have today should be the same buying power you have 10 or 15 years down the road.

Reverse mortgage pitfalls? Yes but certainly not always. Depending on how you structure you loan it could work out beautifully for you in the end. It all depends on how much knowledge you are bringing to the table and remember that knowledge equals power and only you decide how much power you will bring to that table!

Few points that would help you have better managed closet.

If you plan to set yourself more organized, then organizing your closet would be one among the high priority list to do. Organizing a closet is a very huge task and as if it has to be taken as a whole, it always smart to break it into various smaller activities. This will make the whole task seem a lot more easy and even a wee bit enjoyable.

Shedding all the items which you no longer need is the initial step in organizing a closet. A good number of things might be noticed that aren?t needed anymore. The general human tendency is to store things for fear of their utility in the future. This is one of the major reasons why closets get cluttered and unmanageable. If you can steer clear of this tendency, then your job is half done. Anyways, even if you have fallen into this trap, the first step towards a clean closet is to get rid of the things that are not needed now. Segregating your stacks or shelf like donate, sell and throw should be more useful.

Once you have cleared the unwanted ones, organize all the wanted stuff. Pile items similar in nature and that would give a good picture of your all belongings like belts, shirts, skirts, pants, shoes etc?

Now after sorting, check if the closet can take all of the stuff together and yet look organized. At times, the old ones are not up to our needs. One might either require a new one or a spiffy organizer parts for a closet to jazz the old closet up.

You can use the kits available for organizing a closet in case you plan to jazz the old one up. Do take the measurements of the closet well before you start off to purchase an organizer kit. This would help you in fitting the new closet neatly into the place of the old closet. Turn the top shelf of the closet and the bar of the old one into a full version which is pimped up with hangers, racks and baskets that slide.

You have to spend on a complete new closet organizer if you shed off the old closet and also the unwanted or unneeded stuff. Measuring the space that the new closet organizer would take is a good thought. You can now have different varieties mixed that can match to your complete new organizer for your closet by setting off to the nearby store for hardware or idea.

Discount Blinds

Despite the high-end look, discount wood blinds are available. Constructed from the less expensive types of wood, these discount wood blinds can be very reasonably priced. They are pre-designed, pre-made, and pre-cut and can’t be made to order. Discount wood blinds come in limited styles and options; however, they are just as good as customized wood blinds in terms of quality and durability.

Discount window blinds should be inexpensive, not cheap in quality, you should be able to purchase them with confidence that these blinds you have chose will satisfy your tastes and stand up to the abuse they might receive over the years of use, and other conditions they might go through.

Search for the discount window blinds company that guarantee’s all their products with lifetime warranties. Generally if there is a great warranty, it means the manufacturer is pretty confident in their product, and you won’t need to use the warranty. Also, another great way to ensure that your discount window blinds are not going to be a purchase you regret is by finding a store that does not say that all sales are final. You should get the satisfaction of knowing that if the blinds aren’t working out for you, that you can return them.

If you decide to order a set of discount window blinds, be sure that your order arrive’s on time. If you save thousands of dollars on discount window blinds, then you don’t get them for eight months, then you have eight months of loss privacy, lots of sun where you don’t need it, so all that money you just saved wouldn’t feel worth it.

Besides, the 3-inch valance on these blinds is very decorative. Ramin is a cheaper alternative. They have a 2-inch valance at the top of the window to hide the metal head rails. Wood blinds are available at different prices depending on the type of material used, the kind of finish, the options provided and so on.

Always ask about the store’s return policy. If you buy from a discount store, immediately check out your blinds as soon as you get home to make sure they are not flawed. If the blinds are not to your liking, return them immediately.

What Makes Antique Picture Frames Better?

Filed Under (Interior Design) by Ned D'Agostino on 09-08-2008

by Ned D’Agostino

We have mass production to thank for making the products we need available to use when we need them and generally where we need them. Mass production also makes many of those same products affordable. But mass production simply cannot match the quality you get when you buy things that are handmade. And quality is one reason antiques are getting more popular.

You’ll find antiques just look better, and certainly antique picture frames are like this. You can show off those old photos or pieces of art in any frame, but use an antique frame and you will immediately notice a difference far and above any mass produced frame. You’ll be drawing attention to them, and just making them look more impressive.

Sure a standard store bought frame can still make your pictures look great. But put that same photo in an antique frame and you can almost feel the difference. Don’t try to explain it because you probably can’t. But you will notice it just the same.

Do you have a picture of your great grandfather displayed somewhere in your home? How much meaning would that picture have if it was displayed in a frame that he once owned, or maybe even one he made?

Maybe that’s an ideal scenario, but you don’t have a frame that your grandparents owned. Well you can still get the same feel. Display that picture in a frame that was made around the time that the picture was. Now the photo and frame will seemingly become one, like they were made for each other. Your family and guests will comment as they eyes are seemingly drawn to it. You now have something more than just a border around that photo.

And of course you can be sure that with an antique picture frame you are getting a quality frame. Something that was handmade by someone who took pride in his work. I fully understand that not everything made in the “old days” was better. That would make me a sentimental old fool. But I do believe that most things made by hand are a little better.

Everything was handcrafted then. And a true artist could provide spectacular detailing. Look closely and you’ll see it. Like we said, there are still frame makers today that can provide great quality, but as we mentioned, quality is not the only reason to go with an antique. It’s just one of many.

But as with everything else, there’s a catch. And in this case, the catch is generally the price. Some people think they probably can’t afford a true antique. And the fact is, that these frames can be quite costly. More than once I’ve gone into an antique store and almost fainted when I turned over the price tag. And that hold true whether you are looking at a wood frame, or one made of silver or gold.

At this point you may think you have two options. You can either give up your search or pull out your credit card thinking that this is your only chance to get the antique you want. But both options are bad choices. Instead, you should look around both in your local area and online. If you’re patient and persist, you can likely get the frame you want at a price that’s more within your budget.

And when you do, buy it and put that cherished photo or artwork inside it and proudly display it. You’ll notice a difference right away.

Your guests and family members will notice the difference as well.

Battling Pests on Indoor Houseplants

Filed Under (Interior Design) by Thomas Fryd on 09-08-2008

Tagged Under :

by Thomas Fryd

Whenever you introduce a new house plant, it should be checked for insects and disease before placed alongside clean plants already present in your home. It does not matter where your plant came from, prevention is the best tactic. Begin by cleaning and applying an insecticide treatment to any new plant. If they are clean there’s not much to worry about, as far as pests are concerned, but it is still recommended to apply pesticides frequently.

Cleaning, or sponging, a plant’s foliage has multiple benefits. By removing dust from the leaves, you open up the pores, technically called stomata, used by a plant to breathe. Like anything that has life, plants must be able to breathe. House plants should be dusted monthly. Simultaneously, you should remove any insects, eggs or pupae present.

Pest Control

This method is perfect for plants with large leaves but for cleaning those with dense foliage, like ferns or grasses, dipping is preferable. This process should be done in a large sink, tub, or somewhere you can completely immerse your plant in an insecticide solution. You’ll want to keep your plant in this location until it dries completely.

Sponging and dipping are effective in removing the following pests: aphids, a plant-eating, plant lice; thrips, minute insects with fringed wings; and red spiders, actually a type of plant-feeding mite closely related to arachnids. Unfortunately, there are more tenacious pests that necessitate more extreme measures. Mealy worms and scale insects are examples of these troublesome pests.

Telltale signs of a mealy bug’s infestation are the actual presence of the small, yellow bug covered with a powdery, wax matter. Because this wax-like covering is quite water-proof, spray insecticides are worthless. Brushing each insect off and soaking them each methylated spirits will result in their demise. The second step, equally important, is to follow with sponging the entire plant, as described above. This two-step treatment is the most effective in providing your plant relief from these insect.

Because of their scaly coverings and shaper, scale insects are similar in appearance to that of freshwater snails, or limpets, thus the origin of its name. Individual removal of the insects, using a match or piece of wood, from any leaves or stems is required due to its impermeable outer coat resistant to insecticides. Again insecticide sponging is an essential step in treating your house plant. It will destroy any eggs that may have been left behind.

Special insecticides are also available for controlling ants, earwigs, woodlice and slugs.

Soil Quality

Although controlling pests is crucial, soil maintenance also offers multiple benefits. Vital to your plant’s health is the use of clean dirt when adding top soil or repotting. To sterilize compost, it must be heated in a heat-resistant container to kill any insects, larvae, disease, weeds, seeds, and roots. This process also releases organic nutrients and improves the soil’s fertility. During the 20 minutes of the heating process, at a temperature no greater 85?C, the soil should be stirred sporadically and later removed and spread out to cool off. Do not try using the soil until well cooled. The same results can be obtained by using naphthalene powder or ?Aldrin?, the brand name for a chemical soil sterilizer.

Fungal Disease

Mildew is the most common fungal disease and appears on the top of houseplants leaves and stems. This fuzzy white matter should be treated with fungicides, watch out on corn plants and bromeliads. By sifting the powder over the leaves and upper and lower areas of the plant, you will effectively cure your houseplant of this disease.
